The keyhighlights of the project are:

• To provide nutritious food to migrant construction women workers and their kids.

• To provide immunization schedule to kids of 0-10 years.

• To provide Covid Vaccination to Migrant Construction Labourers.

• Toprovide basic amenities like clothing, beddings, books, sanitary facilities etc.

• To provide medical aid as per requirement.

• To do integrated research.

• To collect data base of migrant construction workers.

• To help the kids enroll in schools if necessary.

B & S (Beti and Shiksha) Foundation believes in teaching women  how to fish instead of giving them free fish. B & S F India focuses specifically on economically empowering women from all walks of life and making them self-reliant (Swavabhambhi). Our Activity Report elucidates this approach.

Heartbreaking reality: Construction laborers, including pregnant and lactating mothers, work until delivery day, then return with newborns to face challenges like inadequate nutrition and unstable housing.

Little Sandhya is eleven months old …. Everyday morning she comes with her mother Meenakshi to the construction site near my house.  Little Sandhya is tied with a rope while her mother toils and climbs up high walls. There is nobody taking care of Sandhya while her mother works. She sits all whole day in this scorching heat. Yesterday while she was sleeping by the construction site it started to rain very heavily. Sandhya was all wet by the time her mother came down to take cover.  We must do something to take care of these kids.  Little baby Sandhya  was only given one dose of immunisation which was given by the hospital.  No one is bothered about her future. Looking at this in front of my eyes, just breaks my heart. We need to do something for these kids. They deserve so much better.

India has made great strides in improving access to quality education, increasing elementary school enrollment and reducing the number of out-of-school children. In fact, the country produced a ‘National Plan of Action for Education for All’ in 2002, contextualizing EFA in India and elaborating policy strategies to that end. Indian has Right to Education Act (RTE) which describes the modalities of the importance of free and compulsory education for children between 6 and 14 in India under Article 21a of the Indian Constitution. Despite the legal formalities there are various loopholes in the education department of India. As per our project, “Mission Sandhya” we have met multiple kids of migrant construction workers who travel along with their parents in search for work. Their education is compromised and no incentives are provided to them. As our social responsibility, B&S (Beti and Shiksha) Foundation has taken the initiative to provide such grieved kids with basic education for which we are hiring interns and volunteers. You are most welcome if you want to be a part of this Mission.
